August 2, 2011

Hey y’all,

We’re gearing up for the big day here in the CLT and the question on everyone’s lips seems to be “where do we stay?”  We think we’ve got some great options for you!  Check out our guest info page for the big list of hotels and b&b’s, but if it’s a log cabin kind of weekend you’re dreaming of this fall then the listings below should do the trick! Please check the link for pricing details. Enjoy!

Tryon Mountain House: Sleeps 8-10, 3 bd 2.5 ba

This modern Tryon Mountain House is located on a semi-private crystal clear swimming lake near the top of Melrose Mountain. It is a spacious three story home with a large living and dining area, ideal for entertaining and/or quietly enjoying the spectacular views of the sunsets, mountains, woods and lake from the large picture windows and two decks.

There are additional views of the area from the kitchen, bedrooms and baths. Wooded paths on this 4.5 acre property lead from the house to the swimming lake and another to a community area with a rustic tennis court and second lake stocked for fishing.

Great House on Lake Lanier 5 minutes from downtown Tryon: Sleeps 11-12; available as 3br 2.5 ba or 4 br 3.5 ba

The Oar House has three levels. It can be rented with two master suites and 2.5 baths or with four bedrooms and 3.5 baths. The main level suite has a queen bed and the upper level suite has a queen bed, a daybed in the bedroom and a sitting room with a sofa that could sleep one. (It is not a sleeper sofa). Both suites have private baths. Both bedrooms have absolutely awesome views of the lake. The lower level has 2 bedrooms and a full bath. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other bedroom has a double bed and bunks. Both rooms have vanity sinks.

There are three wonderful decks to relax on and eat on if desired. There is also an eating bar in the living area with six bar stools and the dining room table seats 8 comfortably. The 1930s Lake Lanier Tea House is a very short drive or a pleasant walk to dinner on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and brunch on Sunday.

Downtown Tryon: 2 br+2.75ba – Sleeps 6-8

This house was built in 1923 as the original real estate office for the Tryon Development Company. It has the great room with the master on the main floor (king bed) with a sitting area (great mountain views) and 1/2 bath. Full bath also on main floor. The doors to the bedroom came out of a speakeasy from back in prohibition days. You can still buy Carolina moonshine in the area(so I hear). Upstairs there is large loft with a king size bed. At the top of the stairs , there is a bridge across to a small loft with a day bed, can open to twin beds. This house is a national treasure. We are privileged to own it and hope you will let us share it with you.

Boarding School

July 26, 2011

We’ve talked about this before, I like to look at petty things… it settles my soul and is a whole lot of fun, but it does put a hitch or two in the decision-making process.  Don’t worry, these ideas will settle, there are just so many pretty little things to show you!

My new obsession is pinterest, which allows you to “pin” so many pretty things and create amazing mood boards. I can sense concern via the interweb,…”Will Candace still share all her amazing thoughts and ideas with us now that she’s found a new site!?!?” Don’t panic readers. I can’t stop (even if you ask nice) so here we go with my new favorite thing…

Succulents.  They are resilient, earth friendly, and so… you know …pretty. I love them. Mostly because as hard as my black thumb tries they can’t be ruined.  The darn things just keep growing and growing.

So here we go, more loveliness for your Tuesday afternoon.  Trust me, it won’t hurt ya…

Color Correction?

July 25, 2011

Ladies and Gentlemen, solve a little problem for me.  What color is this? Fuchsia? Hot Pink? Whatever could it be…

ranunculus and peonies

Here are some shots that served as our inspiration for the guys attire.  The black and white shots are from our photographer Richard Israel.  Ain’t he grand?!?!

Dapper!

Gents and Dandys

July 25, 2011

Lately, Chris and I have been confusing either Men’s Warehouse or Brooks Brothers sales folk on a daily basis.  You don’t want to rent tuxes? What kind of ties? Suspenders?  Finally today we got great guidance from a rep at Brooks Brothers in Concord Mills.  Erin, the amazing salesman, is a Dandy. One of those rare old southern gentlemen with a firm handshake, a strong sense of style, and an Ascot to match any possible situation.

And so, with a little help from Erin and our friends in the blogosphere, dear gents, we have a decision!  Go forth and find…

  • White Long- Sleeved Dress Shirt
  • Medium to Dark Grey Suit Pants
  • Black Suspenders or a Vest in medium to dark grey (your choice gents!)
  • Black Belt
  • Black Shoes
  • Ties (TBD)
Here’s a grey scale box for guidance.  Stick with the bottom row and all will be… well, dandy …

Grey Scale - Bottom row!

Dear Mom,

July 24, 2011

I really hope you’re my one viewer.

You, along with our good friend Mary Clark Guillory of Psalm 27 Creative, are in charge of invitations and all things paper.  I’m a little bit country, Chris is a little bit rock n’ roll and my folks are a whole lot traditional.  So what’s the perfect invitation for this wacky sitcom worthy family?

Whatever my Mom wants, that’s what!  We know in my family that if Mama ain’t happy ain’t nobody happy.  This is a good lesson out there for all my readers, and by all my readers I mean Chris Steude…

Here are some ideas Mom!  You are in good hands with MC and Psalm 27 Creative.  http://psalm27creative.tumblr.com/

Traditional with a little umph!

Rustic Traditional? I shall call it adorable!
